Admissions
Children are admitted to school in September at the start of the academic year in which they will become five. We can admit up to twelve children into Reception each year. In the event of there being more applications than places available, the school is bound by the Worcestershire County Council policy. This policy allocates places according to the following published criteria:
- Pupils living in the school's catchment area.
- Pupils who would have a brother or sister (sibling connection) at the time of admission. In order to qualify for a place on the grounds of a brother/sister (sibling) attending the school, the sibling must already be attending the school at the time of application and still attending at the time of admission.
- Pupils who have a significant reason for admission, such reasons, the validity of which will be determined by the Directorate of Educational Services, will include medical, social or compassionate grounds. Parents are required to produce a medical certificate or other appropriate information from an independent source. (Significant reasons will not be considered unless supporting information is attached to the application form when submitted).
- Pupils who were attending a feeder school at the time of application.
- Pupils who live nearest to the school by the shortest available walking route.
In accordance with legislation, a child with a Statement of Special Educational Needs will be offered a place at the school named in the Statement.
Children coming into Reception at Pebworth are encouraged to attend full time at least from the start of the term in which they become five. However, we now offer full time places from the start of the school year to all four year olds whose parents feel it is appropriate. This is so that we can offer a full, broad and balanced curriculum to even the youngest children. Nevertheless, we want children to enjoy school and to have a really good start, not become too tired and frustrated and so we strongly suggest parents discuss the particular arrangements for their child with the Headteacher when the opportunity is offered in March prior to school entry in September. If you would like to discuss these arrangements at a different time, please do not hesitate to make an appointment.
