Art and Design

We aim to:

Urge children to use their senses to the full in detailed observation.

Encourage children to extend their knowledge of the appearance of things.

Give opportunities for children to become more aware of and to experiment with colour, texture, tone, line, shape, pattern, form and composition.

Develop the ability to choose the most appropriate media to interpret a theme.

Build upon an inner store of experiences, pattern and designs that will be a source for children's own creations.

Introduce crafts that can be developed from different levels as appropriate.

Develop an awareness of the place of the artist and designer in our everyday lives and at the same time to develop the individual's creative potential.

Provide a variety of experiences, including two dimensional pictures, using paint, ink, dye, print, collage, three dimensional craft, including models made from junk materials, clay, plasticine, and paper mache.

Introduce children to the work and aspirations of prominent artists, past and present.
